BRONCOS' LATE COMEBACK SPOILS SEA LIONS' SEASON OPENER

(SAN MARCOS, Calif.) PLNU Women's Basketball began its season opener against #14 Cal Poly Pomona on a 14-0 run before the Broncos came back in the fourth quarter to defeat the Sea Lions by a 71-62 margin on Friday.

Point Loma held Cal Poly Pomona scoreless for the first 5:23 of the game, limiting the Broncos to just 2-for-13 from the field in the opening period.

The Sea Lions shot 4-for-6 from behind the arc in the first, with Izzy Navarro knocking down a pair of triples to start the game.

Pomona then opened the second quarter on a 12-0 stretch of its own to cut PLNU's advantage to four.

Two 3-pointers from Maddie Morrow and a corner trey from Navarro helped the Sea Lions extend their lead back to double digits before taking a five-point advantage into the locker room.

CPP tied it up with under a minute left in the third, for the first time since the score was 0-0, but Golan's 3-pointer in the closing seconds of the quarter gave PLNU a 52-49 lead going into the final period.

The Broncos then outscored the Sea Lions 22-10 in the fourth, taking their first lead of the game with 7:03 to play before leading the rest of the way.

Navarro led PLNU with 17 points, seven rebounds and seven assists without turning the ball over. Golan added 15 points, while Eiley Tippins nearly joined them in double figures with nine points.

Point Loma (0-1 overall) returns to the court on Saturday to play at Cal State San Marcos at 2 p.m.
