(SAN DIEGO) A historic PLNU Men's Soccer season has resulted in a pair of All-American honorees for the Sea Lions, as announced by the Division 2 Conference Commissioner's Association on Tuesday afternoon.
Cole Friesen and
Emmett Layman represent Point Loma on the D2CCA All-American Team, with Friesen earning First Team honors and Layman selected to the Second Team.
The duo is the first set of PLNU teammates to receive All-American recognition in the same season in the program's NCAA era.
Friesen led Point Loma in points this season with 37, scoring 14 goals and adding nine assists. The D2CCA West Region Player of the Year is tied-for-second in all of NCAA Division II in points and tied-for-sixth in goals.
Layman led the team with 15 goals this season, while also providing five assists for a total of 35 points. His 15 goals total is tied-for-second in Division II, while his 35 points are tied-for-sixth nationally.
Both players previously earned D2CCA First Team All-West Region honors and were named to the All-PacWest Team.
Point Loma (16-4-2 overall) had its best season in program history, reaching the NCAA Division II quarterfinals for the first time. PLNU also won a third-straight PacWest regular season championship and a first-ever PacWest Tournament title.
