(SAN DIEGO)
Luke Reece and
Noah Meffert hit Point Loma's first home runs of the season, but Chico State stymied the Sea Lions' offense in a Saturday sweep of No. 5 PLNU Baseball by scores of 12-3 and 3-0.
Â
After the Wildcats scored five runs across the first three innings of game one, Reece's solo shot in the bottom of the third got Point Loma on the board.
Â
Owen May then walked with the bases loaded to make it 5-2 in the fourth, before the visitors got out of the jam.
Â
Â
Meffert homered himself in the seventh, cutting Chico State's lead to 7-3, only for the Wildcats to respond with a five-run eighth.
Â
Â
The visitors then shut out the hosts across the final two innings of game one, then all seven frames of game two.
Â
Jack Bunnell (2 IP, 4 K) and
Christian Williams (1 IP, 1 K) combined to pitch three shutout innings in relief of starter
Brock Mayer (4 IP, 3 R (2 ER), 2 K), but Chico State limited PLNU to just three hits in game two.
Â
Point Loma (1-2 overall) will now host Colorado School of Mines in a three-game series beginning on Friday at 1 p.m.
