(SAN DIEGO) A two-hour weather delay didn't slow down No. 5 PLNU Baseball on Friday, as Point Loma cruised to a 14-4 victory over Colorado School of Mines at Carroll B. Land Stadium.
Friday's series opener was originally scheduled for 1 p.m. before being pushed back to 2 p.m. and eventually 3 p.m. because of fog.
After a scoreless first inning by both teams, PLNU wasted little time in taking an early lead with a pair of homers as part of a six-run second inning.
A grand slam from
Owen May broke the game open for the Sea Lions before a two-run shot by
Jake Entrekin put the finishing touches on Point Loma's best offensive inning of the season thus far.
Those six runs were more than enough for starter
Ray Cebulski, who earned his second win of the year, pitching five innings while only allowing two earned runs.
PLNU scored in five straight innings to win by double digits, as May finished the day with six RBIs and Entrekin tallied four RBIs.
Entrekin and
Chris Larkin each had three-hit days, while
Luke Reece went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs out of the leadoff spot.
Branden Jackel closed the door on the mound with three shutout innings, striking out four, to earn the save. He has now pitched 7.2 scoreless innings in two appearances this season.
Point Loma (2-2 overall) concludes the non-conference portion of its schedule on Saturday, when PLNU hosts Colorado School of Mines in a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
