(SAN DIEGO) No. 5 PLNU Baseball completed a sweep of Colorado School of Mines on Saturday, winning both games of a doubleheader by one-run margins, 7-6 and 4-3.
Â
After winning the series opener on Friday by double digits, Point Loma used a four-run first inning in game one on Saturday and two homers from
Jake Entrekin in game two to conclude its non-conference schedule on a three-game winning streak.
Â
Jake Schwartz's first collegiate hit was a two-RBI double to right, tying game one, before
Chris Larkin's single up the middle also scored a pair.
Â
Â
Mines briefly retook the lead before
Noah Meffert's sacrifice fly scored what proved to be the winning run, as the Sea Lions' bullpen held the Orediggers scoreless over the final five innings of the first game.
Â
Â
Then in game two, Entrekin nearly single-handedly lifted PLNU to victory, launching a pair of long balls the opposite way to account for all four of Point Loma's runs in the win.
Â
Â
Christian Williams closed the door in both games with saves, pitching a combined three shutout innings.
Â
Â
In the final inning of game two,
Tanner Forbus cut off what looked like a leadoff double into the left center field gap before firing to
Matt Bernath, who threw to
Luke Reece to get the runner out at second.
Â
Point Loma (4-2 overall) now turns its attention to PacWest play, with the Sea Lions opening their conference schedule on Saturday at home against Biola. First pitch in Carroll B. Land Stadium is scheduled for 11 a.m.
