POINT LOMA WINS PACWEST SERIES WITH VANGUARD

(SAN DIEGO) No. 7 PLNU Baseball clinched a series win over Vanguard on Saturday, meaning Point Loma has won both of its series to start PacWest play.

The Sea Lions won 10-5 in the first game, scoring double-digit runs for the fourth straight game and extending its winning streak to a season-high five games, before Vanguard stole the series finale in extra innings, 5-1.

After the visiting Lions scored four runs in the top of the second of game one, Point Loma answered right back with five in the bottom half, as Luke Reece's two-RBI single up the middle capped off the five-run second.

Vanguard tied it back up briefly, only for Bryson Hashimoto to restore PLNU's advantage with a double to left.

Noah Meffert's two-RBI double in the eighth put the finishing touches on another strong offensive performance from the Sea Lions, as Jonathan Kozasky earned the win out of the bullpen after pitching 5.1 innings of one-run ball.

Point Loma then tallied 11 hits in game two, with Jake Entrekin, Owen May and Jake Schwartz each having multiple, but PLNU was only able to manage a single run.

With the second game tied 1-1, Hashimoto led off the bottom of the seventh with a double to put the potential walk-off run in scoring position. However, Vanguard got out of the jam before scoring four runs in the top of the ninth to win.

Point Loma (10-4 overall, 4-2 PacWest) returns to Carroll B. Land Stadium on Friday to host Menlo in a four-game PacWest series. First pitch in Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for 11 a.m.
