POINT LOMA RAKES IN DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP OF MENLO

(SAN DIEGO) No. 12 PLNU Baseball cruised to a doubleheader sweep of Menlo on Friday inside Carroll B. Land Stadium, pouring it on offensively in a pair of wins by scores of 15-5 and 23-3.

The Sea Lions run-ruled the Oaks after seven innings of game one, before scoring in all six innings that they batted in during game two.

Point Loma scored 23 runs in game two on 22 hits, its most hits in a single game since Feb. 10, 2023 at Cal State Monterey Bay.

PLNU's 23 runs are its most in a seven-inning contest since scoring 26 at Biola on April 15, 2022.

The Sea Lions hit six home runs on the day, including two from Jake Entrekin to raise his total to seven on the year and the fourth of the season from Josiah Rodriguez.

Aiden Arriaga, Matt Bernath and Jack Ryan all hit their first career home runs for the Sea Lions.

Rodriguez finished a double short of the cycle in game one, while Bernath had three hits in both games. Entrekin and Arriaga each recorded six RBIs on the day, while Noah Meffert had five, including four during his five-hit game two.

Michael Sarhatt pitched four stellar innings of relief in game one, striking out a career-high nine batters to earn the win.

Branden Jackel then continued his streak of not allowing an earned run to start the season, up to 23 innings after hurling five scoreless frames in game two. The sophomore lefthander struck out seven and allowed just two hits, while needing just 58 pitches to get through five.

Point Loma (12-4 overall, 8-2 PacWest) returns to Carroll B. Land Stadium on Saturday to host Menlo once again in another conference doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
