(IRVINE, Calif.)
Jake Entrekin homered twice in game one of Saturday's doubleheader split at Concordia, extending his PacWest and West Region lead in the category to 13 for the season.
Â
No. 15 Point Loma won the first game, 7-6, before Concordia bounced back to take game two, 3-1.
Â
After
Luke Reece got the Sea Lions on the board in game one with a two-RBI single to left center, Entrekin went opposite field in the fifth to double Point Loma's advantage.
Â
The catcher's second homer of the day, which was also launched over the right field fence, came after a pair of
Bryson Hashimoto RBI base hits. Entrekin's solo shot proved to be the difference in PLNU's one-run victory.
Â
Chris Larkin's run-scoring single in game two put PLNU in front in the second, but was the only run the team managed against reigning West Region Pitcher of the Year Jake Covey.
Â
Sea Lions starting pitchers
Ray Cebulski and
Branden Jackel combined to pitch nine shutout innings with nine strikeouts on the day.
The two teams had a doubleheader slated for Friday in San Diego, but the two games were postponed because of weather. PLNU and CUI will play two more times on Apr. 8.
Â
Point Loma (16-8 overall, 12-6 PacWest) returns to Carroll B. Land Stadium on Thursday to host Hawai'i Hilo in a conference doubleheader beginning at noon. The two teams will play a four-game series, with a doubleheader also scheduled for noon on Friday.
