(SAN DIEGO) No. 13 PLNU Baseball completed a four-game sweep of Hawai'i Hilo, taking both games of Friday's doubleheader by scores of 7-4 and 6-4.
Â
The sweep is the Sea Lions' third of the season and first of the Vulcans since 2015.
Â
In game one, RBI-doubles from
Jake Schwartz and
Matt Bernath gave Point Loma a 2-1 lead in a two-run second inning.
Â
Josiah Rodriguez followed that up with a two-run shot in the third, before
Luke Reece hit a three-run home run for the second straight day. Those three runs in the bottom of the seventh scored what proved to be the winning runs.
Â
Michael Sarhatt earned the win with three innings of relief, allowing only a single unearned run.
Christian Williams recorded his PacWest-leading seventh save of the season with a scoreless ninth.
Â
Then in game two, Rodriguez came through again with a two-run single in the first.
Â
Jake Entrekin then launched a three-run blast to right to extend his PacWest lead for homers to 14 on the season.
Â
Schwartz added a sacrifice fly an inning later, which was more than enough runs for the Sea Lions' pitching staff, which held the Vulcans to four runs or fewer in every game of the series.
Â
Branden Jackel pitched five innings to earn the win, with
Colin Driscoll pitching two scoreless innings out of the bullpen to register the save.
Â
Point Loma (20-8 overall, 16-6 PacWest) returns to Carroll B. Land Stadium on Friday to host Fresno Pacific in a PacWest doubleheader at noon.
