(SAN DIEGO) No. 10 PLNU Baseball walked it off in extra innings of game one of Friday's PacWest doubleheader split with Fresno Pacific in Carroll B. Land Stadium, winning 12-11 before falling 4-6.
Â
Jack Ryan's heads-up baserunning lifted the Sea Lions in the 10th inning of the first game. The freshman singled to center field before stealing second and advancing to third as the ball squirted into the outfield. Ryan then darted home on a wild pitch to give the hosts a win in the series opener.
Â
That came after Point Loma scored nine runs across the sixth and seventh innings, which included four in the sixth and another five in the seventh.
Â
Â
Noah Meffert's two-RBI double cut PLNU's deficit to one, before
Tommy Molina's first home run of the season put the Sea Lions back in front.
Â
Josiah Rodriguez, who had four hits in game one, opened the scoring in the five-run seventh with an RBI-double. Run-scoring hits from
Jake Schwartz and
Matt Bernath followed to extend Point Loma's advantage to 10-4.
Â
Â
Rodriguez, Meffert and Schwartz then all had RBI base hits in game two, with the trio recording multiple hits in both games of the day.
Â
FPU scored four runs in the third to break a tie and take a lead it wouldn't relinquish. PLNU responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half to get to within two.
Â
In the bottom of the seventh, Schwartz and
Bryson Hashimoto put the tying run on base with singles, but the Sunbirds were able to hold on after a hardly hit liner straight at the second baseman ended the game.
Â
Point Loma (21-9 overall, 17-7 PacWest) will host Fresno Pacific once again on Saturday for a doubleheader on Military Appreciation Day.
