ENTREKIN SETS PLNU CAREER HOME RUN RECORD

(SAN DIEGO) Jake Entrekin is the new Point Loma Home Run King.

Entrekin hit two home runs on Saturday against Fresno Pacific, setting a new program record for career home runs with 42, as No. 10 PLNU Baseball split a doubleheader with FPU on Saturday in Carroll B. Land Stadium.

The San Diego native's two-run shot to center in the sixth inning of game one tied the program record, before he separated himself atop the PLNU record book with another two-run shot in the sixth inning of game two.

Entrekin surpassed the previous program record that was held by Jakob Christian.

It marks the second straight year that a Point Loma player has set a career program record on Military Appreciation Day, after Scott Anderson broke the program record for hits last season.

In game one on Saturday, Josiah Rodriguez and Noah Meffert also homered for the Sea Lions.

With the Sunbirds leading 7-5 entering the final inning, Luke Reece nearly sent the game to extras but was robbed of a game-tying home run after a sensational grab from the FPU right fielder ended the game.

Reece got his revenge though in the second game with a pair of home runs, including in the bottom of the first to tie it up.

Meffert's two-RBI single through the left side capped off a three-run third inning for the Sea Lions, who also added one run in each of the fourth and fifth innings on a Reece sacrifice fly and a sacrifice bunt from Darren Cho.

After Entrekin's record-breaking home run in the sixth, Reece left the yard for the second time in the game before Meffert's RBI-double got the Sea Lions into double digits on the scoreboard.

Meffert went 8-for-14 in the series with four extra base hits and eight RBIs.

Brock Mayer earned the win in game two with six stellar innings, allowing just two earned runs. Jack Bunnell then required only three pitches to pitch a scoreless seventh to close out the game.

Point Loma (22-10 overall, 18-8 PacWest) returns to Carroll B. Land Stadium on April 8 to host Concordia in a PacWest doubleheader that is a makeup of two games that were originally scheduled for March 14.
