POINT LOMA REACHES DOUBLE-DIGIT WINS

(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Men's Tennis reached double-digit wins on the year for the fourth-straight full season, defeating Williams by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday afternoon.

Playing against one of the top NCAA Division III teams, Point Loma won the doubles point to get off to a strong start.

After Nabeel Khan and Niclas Goltz cruised to a 6-2 win at No. 3, Andrew Suver and David Fisinger clinched the doubles point with their 6-3 victory on Court No. 2.

Leading 4-3, the duo earned a break of serve, before Fisinger held serve, with his backhand shot being returned out of bounds to put the Sea Lions up 1-0 overall in the match.

Finn Kirschner then got PLNU on the board in singles, winning in straight sets – 6-1, 6-4. Against the wind, his backhand winner put the hosts back up 2-1 overall in the match.

Goltz then put the visitors on the brink with a commanding third set performance on his way to a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 victory.

Elias Weeks clinched the team victory with his win on Court No. 6 – 6-1, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3. After a close second set tiebreak defeat, Weeks came out on fire in the third set with a pair of aces in the first game to take an early lead.

He then broke his opponent's serve twice to go up 3-1 and then later 5-3. On match point, Weeks showcased tremendous athleticism to reach a ball that ricocheted off the top of the net, before hitting a dink shot for a winner and controlling his slide to not run into the net himself.

Point Loma (10-4 overall) travels to Azusa on Saturday to take on No. 6 APU at noon.
