(SAN DIEGO)
Jake Entrekin walked it off for No. 23 PLNU Baseball in the first game of Friday's doubleheader against Azusa Pacific to complete an epic ninth inning comeback, leading the Sea Lions to the first of two victories over the Cougars on the day.
Â
Point Loma won 5-4 and 2-1 to increase its winning streak to a season-high eight games.
Â
PLNU was held scoreless for the first seven frames before scoring once in the bottom of the eighth on
Noah Meffert's bases-loaded walk.
Â
The Sea Lions then scored four in the bottom of the ninth to win it, taking advantage of an APU error to cut the deficit to two before
Luke Reece's RBI-single to left made it a one-run game.
Â
That set the stage for Entrekin, who's double to the warning stretch evaded the Cougars' outstretched right fielder, to plate the winning two runs.
Â
Â
Jordan Green pitched three scoreless innings of relief to earn his first collegiate victory on the mound.
Â
Then in game two,
Aiden Arriaga's sacrifice bunt gave the Sea Lions a lead in the third inning before
Owen May's RBI-single scored what proved to be the winning run.
Â
Â
Branden Jackel earned his seventh win of the season with four innings of one-run ball before
Christian Williams recorded his eighth save of the year.
Â
Point Loma (32-12 overall, 28-10 PacWest) will travel to Azusa to play APU on Monday in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
