(SAN DIEGO) No. 21 PLNU Baseball clinched the second seed in next week's PacWest Championships after Thursday's doubleheader split with Jessup in Carroll B. Land Stadium.
The visiting Warriors won the first game, 8-5, before the Sea Lions responded in game two with a 6-1 victory.
Point Loma hit three solo home runs in game one, with
Luke Reece and
Jake Entrekin hitting back-to-back long balls in the bottom of the third to put the hosts up 2-1.
Jake Schwartz then hit a solo shot of his own in the fifth, putting Point Loma up by three, only for Jessup to score six unanswered runs to take game one.
Noah Meffert got the Sea Lions off to a great start in game two with a three-run blast in the bottom of the first inning.
Josiah Rodriguez added an RBI-double before
Matt Bernath hit the team's fifth home run of the day to round out the scoring.
That provided plenty of run support for starting pitcher
Branden Jackel, who threw six stellar innings of one-run ball.
Point Loma (34-14 overall, 30-12 PacWest) concludes its regular season on Friday against Jessup with a home doubleheader slated to start at noon in Carroll B. Land Stadium.
A pregame Senior Day ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m.
