SEA LIONS SLUG PAST HPU IN PACWEST TOURNEY OPENER

(FRESNO, Calif.) PLNU Baseball hit five home runs on Wednesday against Hawai'i Pacific, as Point Loma slugged its way to a 14-5 victory to open up the PacWest Championships in Fresno.

Josiah Rodriguez gave the Sea Lions an immediate 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a two-run blast over the left field fence.

After HPU briefly tied the game in the top of the second, Molina restored PLNU's advantage with an opposite-field, solo blast to right.

Entrekin's RBI-single through the left side kept the inning going before Rodriguez went yard again with another moonshot to left, this time to score three runners.

Meffert then went back-to-back, rounding out the six-run inning with a solo shot of his own.

Entrekin joined in on the home run barrage with a two-out grand slam in the third, as PLNU put up 12 runs across the first three innings to extend its lead to double digits.

Luke Reece's two-RBI single scored the final runs of the game for the Sea Lions in the bottom of the seventh.

That was more than enough run support for All-PacWest starting pitcher Brock Mayer, who pitched 6.2 innings and allowed five runs.

Bobby Brown (1.1 IP) and Zak White (1.0 IP) finished out the game out of the bullpen, with neither being charged with a run.

No. 2 seed Point Loma (37-14 overall) advances to play No. 1 seed Westmont (39-12) on Thursday at 3 p.m. The winner will advance to Friday's championship round, while the loser will play an elimination game at 7 p.m. on Thursday against either No. 3 seed Hawai'i Pacific or No. 4 seed Biola.
