(SAN DIEGO) After posting a pair of shutouts, goalkeeper
Julia Pinnell was named the PacWest Defender of the Week while PLNU Women's Soccer earned Team of the Week honors.
Pinnell made a combined nine saves in wins against MSU Denver (2-0) on Thursday and Fort Lewis (1-0) on Saturday, as the Sea Lions finished its non-conference schedule on a two-game winning streak.
No save was bigger than in the 65th minute on Saturday, when Pinell blocked a Fort Lewis penalty kick to keep the game level at 0-0, setting the stage for
Nikki Ross to score the game-winner just minutes later.
Pinnell, who earned her third career PacWest Defender of the Week award, has kept three clean sheets in her last four games entering conference play.
Point Loma (3-2-1 overall), receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, is off until Oct. 2 when PLNU hosts Menlo at 1 p.m. in the team's PacWest Conference opener.
