SEA LIONS SINK EAGLES FROM 3-POINT RANGE

(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Men's Basketball made a season-high 16 3-pointers as Point Loma rolled to an 81-61 win over Biola on Tuesday night in Golden Gym.

After starting 1-for-18 from 3-point range in a victory at Biola on Dec. 10, the Sea Lions shot it much better against the Eagles at home, shooting nearly 50% from beyond the arc.

Caden Harris made Point Loma's seventh 3-pointer of the first half to put PLNU up by double digits in the final minute of the opening period, before Jaden Matingou's steal and score in the closing seconds gave the Sea Lions a 13-point advantage at the half.

PLNU held Biola to just 22 points in the first half, the third-straight game that the Sea Lions have limited their opponents to 23 points or fewer in the opening 20 minutes.

Point Loma then led by seven or more for the entirety of the second half, as the Sea Lions made nine more triples after halftime.

Jake Lifgren made back-to-back 3-pointers in the second half, with Andrew Nagy also hitting a pair from downtown before another Harris triple increased PLNU's lead to as many as 20.

Lifgren, Harris and James Nobles all made a trio of 3-pointers, with the Sea Lions sinking nine triples on 60% 3-point shooting in the second half.

All five starters scored in double figures, led by Nagy's double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds. Harris and Lifgren added 11 points each, while Nobles, Andrew Hommes (4 blocks) and Jaden Matingou all contributed 10 points apiece.

PLNU got out in transition all night, resulting in a 19-2 advantage in fastbreak points.

Point Loma (13-3 overall, 8-2 PacWest), winners of five in-a-row, returns to Golden Gym on Saturday to host Azusa Pacific at 4 p.m. on Community Day.

APU defeated PLNU, 75-73, on Dec. 20.
