PLNU AVENGES PREVIOUS LOSS TO APU

(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Men's Basketball avenged last month's loss to Azusa Pacific with a 90-82 victory over the Cougars on Saturday evening in Golden Gym.

Point Loma (14-3 overall, 9-2 PacWest) has now beaten the two teams it previously lost to in conference play, as the Sea Lions continued their perfect start to 2026 with their sixth-straight victory to start the new year.

Andrew Nagy and Jaden Matingou came up clutch for Point Loma in the second half, as Nagy scored 21 of his career-high 27 points after halftime, while Matingou added 14 of his 19 points.

The Cougars had no answer for either player, with Nagy (10 rebounds) posting his second straight double-double and Matingou (6 assists) sinking all eight of his free throw attempts to help seal the victory.

Andrew Hommes scored 15 points on 6-for-7 shooting, including 3-for-4 from deep, while Jake Lifgren scored all 11 of his points in the first half to help PLNU take a 38-35 lead going into the locker room.

Nagy's 3-pointer capped a 7-0 Point Loma run to open the second half and gave the Sea Lions a double-digit lead for the first time.

APU then battled back to tie the game on a few occasions, including with just over four minutes remaining in regulation, but Matingou scored eight points in the final 1:43 of the game to close out the win.

Point Loma next plays at Vanguard on Saturday at 4 p.m.
