(COSTA MESA, Calif.) PLNU Women's Basketball is in sole possession of first place in the PacWest standings after Saturday's 59-57 road win at Vanguard.
Â
After defeating first-placed Azusa Pacific a week ago, Point Loma posted its second straight win against a team in contention for the conference crown this season.
Â
Eiley Tippins scored a team-high 20 points, while
Hannah Golan posted a near double-double of 14 points and nine rebounds to lead the Sea Lions.
Â
Point Loma held Vanguard scoreless for the final 6:50 of the first quarter, on its way to holding VU to its second-fewest points in a game this season, to take a three-point lead after one.
Â
Tippins gave PLNU a game-high eight-point lead halfway through the second, only for the hosts to fight back to tie it up going into the locker room.
Â
The Sea Lions then won the third and fourth quarters by a single point, with neither team leading by more than five in the second half, as Golan made a couple crucial free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
Â
Maddie Morrow (9 points) made three of the team's seven 3-pointers, while
Izzy Navarro had eight points and seven assists.
Â
Point Loma (14-4 overall, 10-2 PacWest) will take its six-game winning streak into a matchup with Chaminade on Thursday in Golden Gym at 5:30 p.m.
