(SAN DIEGO) No. 14 PLNU Baseball scored its most runs in any game of Opening Weekend, but fell on the wrong side of a 14-9 result against No. 15 Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday afternoon in the series finale between the two teams.
Â
Point Loma scored six runs across the final three innings, including four in the bottom of the seventh, before
Tristan Moore homered for the second-straight game in a two-run ninth.
Â
The Sea Lions tied the game twice in the early going, with
Ben Finnegan's RBI-single making it 1-1 after one and back-to-back run-scoring groundouts in the third tying it up at 3 apiece.
Â
The Otters then scored eight unanswered runs over the next four innings to open the game up.
Â
Jake Schwartz's two-RBI double down the right field line capped off a four-run seventh to cut PLNU's deficit to 11-7, only for CSUMB to respond immediately with three more runs in the top of the eighth.
Â
Schwartz was a perfect 3-for-3 with two walks, while
Owen May (2-for-4, RBI, BB) and
Levi Ham (2-for-5, 2B, BB) each had multi-hit days.
Â
Point Loma (1-2 overall) hits the road next to play at Chico State in a four-game series beginning on Thursday at 2 p.m. in PLNU's final non-conference series.
