SEA LIONS, VULCANS SHARE THE SPOILS ON SENIOR DAY

(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Women's Soccer took a deserved lead early in the second half against Hawai'i Hilo only for the Vulcans to equalize in the 89th minute, as the two teams shared the spoils on Saturday morning on the Sea Lions' Senior Day.

Point Loma outshot Hilo 9-5 in the first half, with Jenna Bisset forcing a diving, outstretched save by Hilo's reigning PacWest Goalkeeper of the Year that kept the game scoreless after 45 minutes.

The Sea Lions then started strongly in the second half, being rewarded in the 53rd minute when Emma Naftzer opened the scoring.

Leah Uezato beat her defender on the left flank and had her cross cleared momentarily but only as far as Naftzger, who took a touch and lasered a right-footed shot into the left side netting.

Seniors Madison Khan and Grace Nelson nearly got on the scoresheet themselves after being honored pregame on Senior Day, as Point Loma came close to adding to their advantage with an 11-3 shot advantage in the second half.

However, the visiting Vulcans equalized with just over a minute left to spoil the Sea Lions' Senior Day celebrations.

Defenders Molly Bachman and Abby Buys were also recognized pregame and were instrumental in limiting Hilo's attack throughout the match.

Kickoff was moved up to 8 a.m. on Saturday morning due to an extreme heat warning in San Diego.

Point Loma (4-2-5 overall, 1-0-2 PacWest), on a five-game unbeaten streak, now hits the road for three straight away contests beginning on Thursday at 10 a.m. in Rocklin at Jessup.
