(SAN DIEGO) No. 12 PLNU Baseball completed its second-straight sweep to start PacWest play, taking both games of Thursday's doubleheader with Chaminade by scores of 7-6 and 14-9 to remain unbeaten in conference action.
In the first game, Point Loma took an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first following back-to-back doubles from
Owen May and
Tristan Moore.
Chaminade then went ahead 3-2 with a pair of runs in the fifth, only for the Sea Lions to respond immediately with three in the bottom half to retake the lead, capped off by
Josiah Rodriguez's double off the top of the wall in right center.
May's third hit of the game was an RBI-single in the sixth that put the hosts up by three.
Devin Norton struck out five batters in his two innings of work, before
Hank Smith stranded the bases loaded to earn the save, with May turning a double play at second to close out the win.
PLNU then broke open a back-and-forth game two with eight runs in the fifth.
Those eight runs in a single inning are the Sea Lions' most in any inning this season, as Moore,
Matt Bernath,
Aiden Arriaga and Rodriguez all had run-scoring hits to give the hosts an insurmountable lead.
Jack Ryan and May both hit homers in the game, as the team scored its most runs in any game this year while improving to 12-0 all-time against Chaminade.
Point Loma (12-3 overall, 8-0 PacWest) plays next on Feb. 28 when PLNU hosts Vanguard in a conference doubleheader slated to begin at 11 a.m.
