SHARKS SNAP SEA LIONS' WINNING STREAK

(SAN DIEGO) No. 17 PLNU Men's Basketball had its eight-game winning streak end on Thursday night as Hawai'i Pacific defeated Point Loma, 91-84, in Golden Gym.

The Sea Lions got off to a fast start, with Jaden Matingou hitting a corner 3-pointer on the opening possession and Andrew Hommes scoring seven points in the first three minutes.

PLNU then took a 42-35 advantage into halftime after Matingou's 3-point play in the final second of the opening half.

But HPU went on a 13-0 run in the second half, as the Sharks shot 20-for-26 (76.9%) after halftime, to turn a six-point deficit into a seven-point lead with under eight to play.

The Sea Lions got to within one after Caden Harris' jumper, but the visitors led the rest of the way to pull off the upset.

Matingou scored a career-high 27 points, while Harris added 22. Tyce Paulsen (11 points) and Hommes (10 points) joined them in double figures.

Point Loma (22-5 overall, 17-4) closes out its regular season on Saturday against Westmont at 4 p.m. with Senior Day festivities in Golden Gym to take place before the game.

PLNU is already assured of the No. 1 seed in the PacWest Championships (March 5-7) having clinched the outright conference title.
