PLNU BASEBALL TAKES FIRST TWO IN ATHERTON

(ATHERTON, Calif.) No. 10 PLNU Baseball opened its PacWest series with Menlo on Saturday with a pair of victories to continue its program-record, unbeaten start to conference play.

Point Loma won the first game after seven innings via run rule, 15-0, before claiming a 9-7 victory in game two.

The shutout in game one was PLNU's sixth of the season, and fourth victory via run rule.

Derek Silva earned the win with 5.1 scoreless innings, while striking out eight batters. Silva has now thrown 19 consecutive innings without allowing a run.

Point Loma set a season-high with 15 hits in the 15-0 victory, as all nine Sea Lions starters recorded a hit in the victory, including a two-run homer from Jack Ryan.

Ryan, Matt Bernath, Hank Smith and Jake Schwartz all had three RBIs.

Then in game two, Smith accounted for four more RBIs, as he, Aiden Arriaga and Tristan Moore had multi-hit games.

Smith's two-RBI triple in the seventh added some valuable insurance runs before he earned his fifth save of the season on the mound.

Point Loma (18-3 overall, 14-0 PacWest) closes out its series at Menlo on Monday with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
