SEA LIONS, WARRIORS SPLIT FRIDAY DOUBLEHEADER

(SAN DIEGO) No. 4 PLNU Baseball split with Westmont on Friday afternoon, winning the first game 7-4 before the Warriors took game two by an 8-4 margin.

Josiah Rodriguez got the Sea Lions on the board in the series opener with a solo shot in the bottom of the first inning.

Aiden Arriaga and Jake Schwartz added RBI-singles before the Warriors tied the game once more, only for Mason Cook to deliver a go-ahead single of his own and Hank Smith to launch what proved to be the game-winning three-run homer.

Starting pitcher Derek Silva struck out a season-high 10 batters across five innings, only allowing a single run.

The Warriors then jumped out to a 7-0 lead in game two before the Sea Lions showed some life with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Westmont then added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to round out the scoring.

Point Loma (33-8 overall, 29-5 PacWest) and Westmont (23-14, 20-14) return to Carroll B. Land Stadium on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at noon on Military Appreciation Day.
