(SAN DIEGO) For the fourth time in five years, PLNU Baseball has won the PacWest championship.
Point Loma swept Westmont on Saturday, 7-0 and 9-1, to become the first four-time PacWest Baseball champion in conference history.
PLNU's fourth title is perhaps the most dominant ever by a PacWest team, as the Sea Lions clinched the conference title with eight games remaining in the regular season.
Point Loma's ninth shutout of the spring sealed at least a share of the PacWest crown before another masterful pitching performance in game two clinched the outright championship.
Glen Huggins (7 IP, 5 K) and
Kyle Scritzky (2 IP, 2 K) combined to throw a three-hit shutout in game one, as
Tristan Moore homered twice to reach double digits in the category this season.
Devin Norton followed that up with six innings of one-run ball while striking out five in game two.
Owen May and
Jake Schwartz both hit solo shots, while
Tommy Molina had three RBIs to lead the PLNU offense.
Matt Elliot struck out two batters in his scoreless ninth to close out the Sea Lions' conference title.
Point Loma (35-8 overall, 31-5 PacWest) next travels to Rocklin to play at Jessup in a four-game series beginning on Friday at noon.
