SEA LIONS PICK UP BIG WIN OVER VULCANS

(HONOLULU) PLNU Men's Tennis picked up a crucial 5-2 win over Hawai'i Hilo on Saturday in the closing stretch to the regular season.

Point Loma entered the weekend No. 6 in the PacWest seedings ahead of the PacWest Championships, while Hilo is No. 4, which should help the Sea Lions' positioning going into the postseason.

PLNU took a 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point, with Rhyson Chiang/Paul Sobich (No. 3) winning 6-4 before David Fisinger/Marcos Alogo-Piqueras (No. 2) claimed a 6-3 victory of their own.

Stanislas Noel won in straight sets at No. 1 (6-1, 6-4) before the Vulcans battled back to make it 2-2.

From there, Point Loma won each of the three remaining in singles matches on Courts No. 2, 5 and 4.

Fisinger restored the Sea Lions' lead with his 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 victory at No. 2 before Alogo-Piqueras clinched the match with his 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-3) win at No. 5.

Sobich put the finishing touches on the victory, prevailing 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 4.

The win came after PLNU was highly competitive in a 5-2 defeat at highly-ranked Hawai'i Pacific on Friday, as Noel (6-3, 6-4) won at No. 1 singles after the Sea Lions triumphed in doubles.

Point Loma (5-10 overall) close out its Hawai'i trip with a neutral-site match on Monday against Colorado Mesa, which will take place at the UH Manoa Tennis Complex at 2:45 p.m. PT / 11:45 a.m. HT.
