(SAN DIEGO)
Ryan Ruch's walkoff RBI-single in the 11th inning lifted No. 2 seed PLNU Baseball to a thrilling 14-13 extra-inning win over No. 3 seed Cal Poly Pomona in the NCAA West Regional on Thursday afternoon.
Point Loma trailed by as many as seven and by multiple runs in each of the final three frames before Ruch came through in the clutch for the Sea Lions.
PLNU forced extra innings after
Jake Schwartz walked with the bases loaded to tie the game.
CPP scored twice in the 10th, only for the Sea Lions to respond with two of their own, first on a
Hank Smith walk and then a wild pitch that plated
Tristan Moore.
The Broncos then retook its lead with two more in the 11th, but Smith tied it up in the bottom half with a two-RBI single to left, setting the stage for Ruch to play the hero.
Cal Poly Pomona jumped out to a 7-0 lead after scoring in each of the first four innings before
Kenny Esposito threw five valuable innings of relief to keep PLNU in it.
Mason Cook, Moore and
Jack Ryan all homered to spark the Sea Lions' comeback.
Point Loma (45-10 overall) will play No. 6 seed Cal State San Bernardino (28-25) on Friday at noon. CSUSB defeated CPP in game one of the regional, 6-4.
