(SAN DIEGO) No. 2 seed PLNU Baseball is one win away from the Super Regionals after a 19-13 win over No. 6 seed Cal State San Bernardino on Friday afternoon.
Jake Schwartz had six RBIs to set a new Sea Lions career high, while
Mason Cook and
Aiden Arriaga each had three, for a Point Loma offense that has combined for 33 runs across its two regional games.
Schwartz's two-RBI single in the fourth put PLNU up for good before his three-run homer extended the lead a couple innings later.
A seven-run seventh inning for the Sea Lions then gave Point Loma a double-digit lead following a two-RBI double from
Tristan Moore.
As the away team on the day, the Sea Lions struck first in the game with two runs after a bases-loaded walk and hit by pitch in the top of the first.
CSUSB answered back with five in the bottom half before
Josiah Rodriguez homered,
Jack Ryan tripled and
Owen May singled in a three-run third to tie the game.
The Yotes immediately pulled back ahead once more with two, only for the Sea Lions to respond with four in the fourth.
Cook tied it again with a base hit up the middle before Schwartz provided the go-ahead RBIs.
After going up by double digits, PLNU led by no fewer than six before
Hank Smith struck out three batters in the ninth to preserve the win.
Point Loma (46-10 overall) and CSUSB (28-26) will play at 11 a.m. on Saturday with an if-necessary game to follow if the Yotes win.
