(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) PLNU Baseball made more history on Friday, winning the PacWest Tournament for the second time in three years with a 9-1 victory over Concordia in the conference championship round.
After already becoming the first PacWest team to win four regular season conference championships, Point Loma is now also the first PacWest program to win multiple conference tournament titles.
The Sea Lions completed a perfect PacWest Championships, winning all three of its games by at least seven runs and scoring nine or more runs in each.
Following a scoreless first three frames,
Mason Cook put Point Loma in front with a two-run homer just over the left field foul pole in the fourth inning.
CUI got one back in the bottom half before PacWest Championships Most Outstanding Player
Josiah Rodriguez hit PLNU's second two-run longball of the game in the top of the sixth.
PLNU then scored three in the seventh after
Tristan Moore's RBI-double dropped just inside the left field foul line and Rodriguez's two-RBI single up the middle plated two more.
Aiden Arriaga and
Matt Bernath then scored on wild pitches in the eighth and ninth innings respectively, as the Sea Lions scored runs in each of the final four frames and in five of the final six.
Devin Norton struck out a season-high nine batters in his seven innings of one-run ball, earning PacWest Championships Most Outstanding Pitcher honors.
Aiden Cook pitched a scoreless final two innings, getting a swing and miss to end the game and spark the Sea Lions' celebrations.
Point Loma (44-10 overall) now awaits its seeding in the NCAA West Regional, with the NCAA Selection Show scheduled for 7 p.m. on Sunday.
