ELLIOTT RESIGNS AS PLNU WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HEAD COACH

6/18/2026 9:43:00 AM

(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Women's Basketball Head Coach Charity Elliott has resigned from her position to pursue other coaching opportunities.

Elliott leaves Point Loma after five seasons, having engineered the best stretch in the program's NCAA Division II era.

"We are incredibly grateful for the leadership and impact that Coach Elliott has had on our women's basketball program," Athletic Director Jordan Courneya said. "During her time at Point Loma, she guided the Sea Lions to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and helped lead our program to its first conference championship, achievements that reflect her commitment to excellence and her ability to develop student-athletes both on and off the court."

Under Elliott, PLNU Women's Basketball appeared in three straight NCAA West Regionals for the first time in program history, including in 2024-25 when Point Loma won its first ever PacWest regular season and tournament championships. That season, the Sea Lions also set an NCAA era record for wins (25).

The past two years, PLNU eclipsed the 20-win mark in back-to-back seasons for the first time since transitioning to NCAA Division II.

"It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to lead the Point Loma Women's Basketball program these last five years and I'm so grateful for my time here and the memories we've made," Elliott said. "I believe this program is in great shape and primed for another championship run, and I will be cheering loudly for not only women's basketball but the entire athletic department."

In each of her first four years, Elliott's Sea Lions increased their win total from the previous season, with Point Loma reaching at least the PacWest Tournament semifinals every year with Elliott at the helm.

Across her five seasons, Elliott accrued a 95-56 (.629) overall record on The Point.

"The coaches and staff at PLNU are such incredible people and talented coaches, and it's been so fun working alongside such fantastic people," Elliott said. "I'm so grateful to the entire community from President Fulcher to all the faculty and staff who have poured into our program. I will forever be grateful to the players and Associate Head Coach Grace Ricafranca for giving me such an amazing ride."

Off the court, Elliott's squad earned WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll recognition every season, ranking as high as No. 12 in NCAA Division II in 2021-22.

"Beyond the success in competition, Coach Elliott helped foster a culture that aligned with our mission of developing leaders of character, purpose, and passion," Courneya said. "Her investment in our student-athletes and her dedication to the Point Loma community have left a lasting mark on our program.

"While we are saddened to see her leave, we are thankful for the leadership, commitment and passion that Charity has invested in our university and women's basketball program. She will always be a valued member of the Point Loma family, and we wish her nothing but success and fulfillment as she begins this new chapter."

Prior to her time at Point Loma, Elliott had previous head coaching stops at Loyola Marymount, UC San Diego, Portland State and Cal Baptist.
