History
Point Loma Nazarene University Sports Medicine began in 1997 and was formerly known as PLNU Athletic Training. The Sports Medicine program was founded by former Head Athletic Trainer and former Director of the Athletic Training Education Program, Leon Kugler, Ph.D., ATC-R. In 2002, the Sports Medicine Clinic expanded from a single classroom into the beautiful facility you see today. What began as a small staff, has now grown into a current staff of four full-time Athletic Trainers. Under the direction of Head Athletic Trainer Alice Davis-Winkel, the Sports Medicine Staff provides athletic training services to approximately 200 PLNU Student-Athletes. Currently, the Sports Medicine program partners with the PLNU Department of Kinesiology to provide robust clinical experience and education to a select group of students within the Master of Science in Athletic Training
Location
The Sports Medicine Clinic is centrally located within the PLNU Athletics Facilities. It is located south of Golden Gymnasium, north of the Track & Field and Soccer Complex, and next to the Carroll B. Land Baseball Stadium and PLNU tennis courts. Directions to the Sports Medicine Clinic can be found here

Mission Statement
We believe that athletic training is a ministry. We seek to be a community of disciples who serve our Student-Athletes by providing the highest level of personalized care through a multi-disciplinary approach. This includes the prevention, care, and rehabilitation of injuries as well as providing direction for the nutritional, physiological, and psychological needs of our Student-Athletes. We believe in the holistic approach of cultivating health and wellness in mind, body, and spirit. We champion health and safety, we build team relationships, we encourage spiritual development, and we promote the pursuit of excellence.
