SAN DIEGO - The Sea Lions fell to visiting Hope International 2-0 Saturday afternoon at PLNU Field. Point Loma Nazarene drops to 1-4 in GSAC play with the loss, 4-7 overall. The Royals improved to 6-6 overall and also has a 1-4 conference record.
It was the first time that PLNU lost to Hope International.
HIU scored the game-winner in the 30th minute of action. The Sea Lions were whistled for a foul just outside the front of their own box to set up a free kick. Matthew Howard made PLNU pay by sending in a perfectly executed shot into the top left corner of the goal.
The Royals tacked on an insurance goal midway through the second half when Edgar Bran dished off the ball to Perris Rowan who found an empty net between him and an easy score.
PLNU was turned back on quite a few opportunities. The Sea Lions outshot the Royals 18-9 and their six goals were also twice as many as HIU. Royal keeper Jake Brown saved six shots with Carter Phillips stopping one.
A chippy contest, the officials handed out four cards on the day and called 15 fouls.
The Sea Lions return to action on Wednesday when they will travel to Riverside to take on CBU starting at 3:00 pm.
