The NAIA No. 8-ranked Sea Lions defeated visiting Holy Names in straight sets Monday afternoon in Golden Gym (25-12, 25-16, 25-17). PLNU's season record is now a perfect 10-0 and pushes the team's non-conference win streak to 28 matches. Among those 28 wins are nine against ranked opponents.
The last time that the Sea Lions lost to team that doesn't call the GSAC home was on August 24, 2007, against Westminster (UT).
PLNU had advantages in every statistical category: percentage (.283-.062), kills (40-22), assists (40-22), digs (53-47) and blocks (6-5).
Tabitha Henken, the GSAC Player of the Week, led PLNU with 15 kills and had 11 digs. Freshman
Maddie Dahms nailed 11 winners on just 19 attempts (.579) with
Alyssa Pitkin adding seven kills and 13 digs. Setter
Kylie Morel had 28 assists and three total blocks with libero
Nicole Eiler adding 13 digs.
Chelsea Joanou contributed a pair of kills, six digs and two blocks.
The Sea Lions trailed only once during the entire match, winning each set easily. The margin of victory gave PLNU the chance to work in a few non-starters who all shined, including
Cassie Irwin who was 2-for-2 and ended the match with a winner.
Monday's match up was the final non-conference tilt of the year for PLNU which heads into GSAC play starting on Friday when they host The Master's at 7:00 pm. On Saturday, the defending national champions and No. 1 ranked team in the country, Fresno Pacific, pays Point Loma a visit.
