SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The NAIA No. 14-ranked Sea Lions were upended by Baker (KS) 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-22) Friday night in Golden Gym. The match was part of the 2010 Seaside Invitational hosted by Point Loma Nazarene. PLNU has two more matches to play Saturday, Lindenwood at 1:00 pm and SCAD at 5:00 pm.
Every set was close and Sea Lions had the lead in every one, but the Wildcats made them pay the price for not being able to finish the job. Set three was perhaps the most frustrating. PLNU went up 8-3 only to see Baker charge back and pass PLNU at 17-16. The Wildcats never relinquished the lead and closed out the match in three.
The Sea Lions fell to 2-1 on the season. The team was paced offensively by
Tabitha Henken's 17 kills. She was the only PLNU player to get into double-figures, though
Alyssa Dwyer came close with nine winners.
Maddie Dahms was next with six.
Baker (1-1) dominated at the net, slamming down 43 winners in 89 attempts (.371 percentage), and collected 11 team blocks. PLNU hit just .216 and had three team blocks. Both teams had 38 assists.
Kelsey Barker posted 15 digs in the loss with
Aimee Bird adding 20 assists and three digs.
Natalie Hamill had 14 assists.
Brooke Pryor led the Wildcat attack with 12 kills. Christina Delladio and Jana Boss had seven and six, respectively. Boss dished out 25 assists and had six digs. Brooke Allen had 12 digs.
