SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Sea Lions lost two leads and eventually the match against Embry-Riddle (AZ) 3-2 on Saturday. PLNU fell to 2-2 on the year, dropping both of their contests at the Westminster Tournament.
After a scoreless opening half, Austin Fares scored the first goal of the non-conference tilt in the 57th minute. But the Eagles evened the score less than two minutes later when Magi Mas Manresa found paydirt for the third time in 2010.
Griffin Fuller knocked in Point Loma's second goal on a corner kick in the 77th minute to give the Green and Gold a 2-1 advantage. Fuller's ball bent in past the Eagle keeper and into the net. It was the second goal of the year for the freshman.
ERU rallied with the tying goal in the 84th minute, however, when Andrew Davidson scored. The Eagles stunned Point Loma with the game-winner on a shot by Gage Palmer that came on a corner kick set up with less than a half minute left on the clock. After the goal and when the Sea Lions put the ball on the midfield stripe, there was only six seconds remaining.
According to the stats, Emby-Riddle took only four shots during the non-conference match, all four were on goal, three sneaking in past keeper Carter Phillips. The Sea Lions attempted 11 shots, seven on goal with Jeremy Meduvsky notching five saves.
The Eagles improved to 3-4 with the win and have now won two straight against the Sea Lions. Point Loma took the first four meetings of the rivalry.
