BOX SCORE
EL CAJON, Calif. - Timely threes and big games by Crissa Jackson and Brianna Colon helped Point Loma Nazarene to a much-needed win at San Diego Christian Tuesday night, 65-60.
The victory pushed PLNU's overall record to 7-6. With only GSAC teams remaining on the schedule, the Green and Gold's conference mark now stands at 2-3. The Hawks fell to 6-7, 1-4 GSAC.
Both sides traded leads throughout a competitive, but low-scoring, first half. The Hawks slowly took control of the stanza and with six minutes to go opened up an eight-point advantage after a Brittany Robinson three pointer. PLNU's Jackson followed with a trey of her own to break the San Diego Christian momentum.
Three minutes later a pair of Colon free throws, an Erin Andersen triple and a layup by Lindsay Hill saw the Sea Lions leap past SDCC and go up by one. Colon swished a three to push the PLNU advantage to four. She would later make a free-throw to give Point Loma its biggest lead of the half – five points.
The Hawks shot under 25 percent over the first 20 minutes of play but sloppy play by the Sea Lions, which included 11 turnovers, and success at the free throw line enabled SDCC to remain close.
Point Loma played tighter in the second and maintained its advantage - though it was a slim one - through the first 10 minutes of the stanza. San Diego Christian reclaimed a brief two-point lead but a pair of clutch Sea Lion threes by Jackson and Kiley Berlinski bookended a Hawk bucket and put Point Loma back in front for good.
The last few minutes belonged to Point Loma which ended up winning by five.
Jackson and Colon, with 24 and 20 points respectively, were the lone Sea Lions to reach double-figures. The Sea Lions shot 45 percent as a team and was 8-of-21 from beyond the arc. Hill pulled in 14 rebounds to lead all players.
Robinson paced the Hawks with 16 points followed by 11 from Jasmin Thomas. SDCC was held to a 26.2 percent shooting average on the night but went to the line 30 times, making 23.
PLNU hosts The Master's College on Saturday; the game scheduled to start at 5:30 pm.
