BOX SCORE
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -- The Sea Lions lost their third straight match Saturday, falling 4-0 at the Master's College in another Golden State Athletic Conference match. With the loss, the Sea Lions' record fell to 7-5-1 overall, 1-4 in the GSAC.
The host Mustangs demonstrated their depth, with each of their goals coming from a different player. David Alegria struck first in the 27th minute to notch the only goal of the first half.
“I think we got outworked, to be honest,” said Coach
Tim Hall. “We ran into a team today that really wanted it.”
The second half, however, proved to be even tougher for the Sea Lions. Jorge Serrano and Joel Peluffo scored in the 50th and 63rd minutes respectively to pad the Mustangs' lead.
Just when the Sea Lions thought it was over, Daniel Miller put in a dagger in the 89th minute to stretch the lead to four goals.
The Mustangs attacked the net relentlessly up until the final whistle, outshooting the visiting Sea Lions 22-5.
The Sea Lions had their opportunities to come back throughout the match, but once again the offense fell flat.
“We were down on their end quite a bit,” said Hall, “but we just didn't capitalize. We just need to create a hunger to put [the ball in the net].”
PLNU goalkeeper
Keith Cline accumulated 7 saves against 11 shots on goal by The Master's. His Mustang counterpart saved all three shots on goal from the Sea Lions.
The Sea Lions' next match is at home against ninth-ranked Concordia on Oct. 19. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
