SAN DIEGO – NAIA No. 6-ranked Point Loma Nazarene took their second defeat of the season from No. 4 Azusa Pacific in a conference match on home courts on Friday, losing 7-2. Loma's record now stands at 8-2 overall and 5-1 in GSAC. Azusa is bumped up to 10-3 overall and 6-1 in GSAC
Doubles began this match and it hit Loma hard, APU winning all three doubles points. Court one of Joel Myers and KC Ensley and court three of DJ Jaehnig and Angel Tavera both lost 8-4 while court two saw Tyler Bowman and Diego Tavera edged out 8-6.
Singles followed and the Sea Lions were hit again, losing four of the six points. Only Diego Tavera and Jaehnig on courts four and five respectively were able to come out on top. Diego Tavera won 6-3, 6-0 while Jaehnig won his first set 6-4, lost the second 4-6 and managed to pull off a close third 7-6.
Myers had a close loss on court one with 7-5, 7-5. Bowman on court two was defeated 6-3, 6-2 and KC Ensley also lost in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. Mike Zablan on court six lost 6-3, 6-4.
Loma has to shake off their loss quickly, as their next match is Monday in a non-conference tilt against Williams at PLNU at 2:30 p.m.
