SAN DIEGO -- Point Loma Nazarene lost to San Diego 10-0 at Cunningham Stadium Tuesday afternoon in a rare match up between the NAIA Sea Lions and the NCAA DI Toreros.
USD scored in six of the eight times they came to bat, plating five runs in the five innings starter
Kelsen Boyer (2-1) pitched for PLNU. The Toreros added three insurance runs off of
Kellen Stewart and two more against Justin Westeteyn.
Paul Paez (2-2) picked up the win for USD. The southpaw toed the rubber for five innings and gave up just four hits with six strikeouts. Max MacNabb and Paul Sewald threw three and one scoreless frame, respectively.
The Sea Lions had just five hits against San Diego; left fielder
Rashad Taylor was 2-for-3.
All but one USD starter hit safely. Kris Bryant was 3-for-5 with three runs scored; five others had two hits.
Point Loma fell to 19-16 with the loss while San Diego improved to 8-22.
The Sea Lions return to conference play with a twinbill against Westmont on Wednesday. Both games are slated for nine innings with an 11:00 am first pitch at Carroll B. Land Stadium.
