SAN DIEGO - The NAIA No. 3-ranked Point Loma Nazarene women emerged triumphant over NCAA DII UC San Diego with a 9-0 sweep on Thursday. The performance today improves the Green and Gold record to 16-1 while USCD drops to 13-9.

It is the ninth time Loma has swept the board this season and the fifth consecutive 9-0 win. Home courts do seem lucky as the Sea Lions have also won every one of the ten home matches they have played.

The ladies breezed through doubles, posting strong wins on every court. No. 3 team of Wileen Chiu and Kiersten Steinhauer finished first, followed soon after by No. 1 team of Ashley Litchfield and Kristin Strimple. Both teams posted an 8-1 win. Court two saw Rachel Owens and Jessica Kwan also take their match, ending it with 8-3.

The Sea Lions had a little more trouble in singles but their momentum couldn't be stopped and not a set was dropped. First to win was Strimple on court one with 6-0, 6-2. Next was Chiu on court five who took both sets 6-2 as did Owens who finished next on court three. Litchfield on court two took her match point home with a 6-3, 6-2 final score.

The next to win was Maika Adair on court four who had a difficult first set, just edging 7-6. But, she came back to win the second easily with 6-3. Hope Penner on court six was last to finish, fighting every inch for her sets. The first she won 7-5 and the second ended 7-6 after a few tough points.

PLNU women are up again on Saturday with two away matches. The Sea Lions will split their squad in order to complete the two matches. The first is against Biola in La Mirada at 11:30 a.m., and the second is against the Masters in Santa Clarita at 1 p.m.
