LA JOLLA, Calif. - NAIA No. 7 PLNU played and lost 6-3 to DII No. 10 UCSD on Northview Tennis Courts on Tuesday. Loma's record slides to 14-5 overall while UCSD continues an undefeated season with their record improving to 17-0.

Doubles gave Loma trouble with the Sea Lions walking away with only one of three doubles points. The win came from No. 2 team Tyler Bowman and Diego Tavera who ended their set 8-4. The other two courts lost with court three watching DJ Jaehnig and Angel Tavera fall 8-5 and court one seeing Joel Myers and KC Ensley edged 8-6.

PLNU did everything it could in its singles matches, forcing UCSD's four singles points into third sets but in the end losing all four. Myers on one had a close match against Erik Elliott, losing the first set 7-5 but then coming back to win the second 7-6. The third set was a battle but Myers eventually fell just shy 7-6.

Court four saw Diego Tavera also lose the first set 6-3, then push for the second set 7-6 and finally being overcome in the third 6-3. Jaehnig on court five snatched the first set 6-3 but went on to lose both the second and third 6-2, 6-2. Mike Zablan on court six had a similar story, taking the first set 6-4 but then losing the second 6-3 and third 6-1.

Wins for Loma came from Bowman and Ensley on courts two and three respectively. Bowman fought through his sets 6-3, 7-6 and Ensley finished easily 6-2, 6-1.

The Sea Lions have a tough match coming up with rival No. 1 Fresno Pacific on Wednesday starting at 1 p.m. It is the final home match of the 2011 season for PLNU.
