SAN DIEGO – The NAIA No. 6-ranked Point Loma Nazarene men's tennis team swept visiting Biola 9-0 Saturday. Loma's record stands as 11-3 overall and 6-2 in GSAC while Biola drops 4-11 and 1-8 in GSAC.
The Green and Gold won all three doubles starting with court three. There
Angel Tavera and
DJ Jaehnig finished strong with 8-0. Court two saw
Tyler Bowman and
Diego Tavera edge Biola's No. 2 team David Mossman and Ryan Adams 8-6 while court one of
Joel Myers and
KC Ensley breezed by with 8-2.
Up 3-0 PLNU coach Rich Hills sent in some of his reserves for the singles portion of the match and they didn't dissapoints. Court three was about as close as BU got as they didn't take one set in any of the singles matches. Myers on one defeated Weston Leopold 6-3, 6-4. On two, Ensley pulled through with 6-2 in both sets. The No. 3 for today was
Chad Rubin who won 6-0, 6-2 for the Sea Lions.
Playing court four was
Andrew Combs who put up straight sets of 6-1. Kevin Cambala was No. 5 and he won 7-5, 6-3 while
Trent Brown on six picked up his win with 6-2, 6-1.
Next for Loma is a GSAC match on Tuesday against Hope International at 4 p.m.
