PLNU Edges Marymount 1-0

Fares' early goal stands up

box score

CARSON, Calif. -- As PLNU coach Tim Hall said, "it wasn't pretty, but it was a win."

Austin Fares scored an early goal and the defense did the rest as Point Loma Nazarene defeated Marymount 1-0 at the Home Depot Center Friday night. The Sea Lions upped their season mark to 4-1-1 with the win.

Fares scored in the 12th minute of play in the non-conference tilt, with Tyler Hall credited with the assist. That would be the lone score of the game despite the two teams combining on 25 total shots. Each squad attempted six shots on goal.

Sea Lion keeper Carter Phillips and his counterpart, Marcos Topolos, both notched six saves.

Point Loma will stay on the road for their next tilt, another non-conference game under the lights -- this one at Soka next Friday. Start time for the match is 7:00 p.m.
