SAN DIEGO – Point Loma Nazarene scored four second-half goals, including three by senior Austin Fares, in a 4-1 defeat of visiting Southern Nazarene Saturday afternoon. The win boosts the Sea Lions record to 3-0 on the year. The Crimson Storm falls to 1-3.

Southern Nazarene drew first blood in the non-conference match when Edgar Pineda blasted in a long-range shot from at least 30 yards out.

SNU's 1-0 lead stood up throughout the first half of play, thanks in part to a pair of teams saves that prevented two Sea Lion shots from finding the net.

Paul Fuchs put PLNU on the board with a goal in minute 48 after he took a throw in from Paul Malherbe and nailed home a shot past keeper Blake Anderson.

The momentum seemed to really shift at that point on in Point Loma's favor. The 54th minute was when Fares netted his first score. Jeff Serbin sent a free kick to Fares from the 30-yard mark to Fares who wheeled and fired the ball in.

The next goal by Fares came in the 71st minute after Austin Rovazzini blasted a shot on goal that bounced off Anderson to Fares who collected the easy tap-in. Then, in the 85th minute the Sea Lions sealed the win. Niko Acosta had the ball and along with Fares blew past the SNU defense. A two-on-one situation, Acosta dished the ball to a wide-open Fares and the score was 4-1.

PLNU outshot the Storm 24-18 on the day in what was a very offensive-minded game. The Sea Lions had a big advantage in shots on goal (12-4) but SNU prevented a blow-out with some timely saves.

Loma takes a few days off before hosting Cal State San Marcos on Thursday for a 4:00 p.m. match.
