SAN DIEGO – San Diego Christian stormed back from a 20-point deficit to force overtime and upset the Point Loma men's basketball team, 68-63 on Wednesday, Nov. 28 in Golden Gymnasium.

The visitors trailed 54-36 with 5:38 left in the game before mounting a sizzling comeback and eventually tying the contest on a three-pointer by Andy Sarahan with six seconds left at 58-58.

The Hawks never led in the game until overtime when Kwaminique Brandon hit a layup and got fouled to put SDCC up by three. The Hawks would go up as many as six in the overtime period but a layup by AJ Ussary and a 3-pointer by Weston Ehlers brought the Sea Lions to within one (64-63) with 1:21 remaining. After a defensive stop, PLNU had the chance to tie or take the lead but Arren Wells' contested layup fell off the rim and the Hawks grabbed the rebound then proceeded to hit all four free throw attempts down the stretch to earn the win.

The loss drops Point Loma to 2-3 on the season and evens the Hawks' record at 3-3.

Todd Campbell led the way for PLNU with a season-best 14 points. Oivind Lundestad also reached double-fgures with 10 points. Ten different Sea Lions scored for PLNU tonight as all but one student-athlete that saw the floor got in the scorebook. Ussary added a team-best seven rebounds and six assists to go along with his eight points. Kevin Dawson led four Hawks in double-figures with 15 points.

The game was truly the story of two different halves. PLNU built a 34-20 lead at intermission thanks to a 16-1 advantage in points off turnovers and an 18-4 edge on points in the paint. The Sea Lions shot 50 percent in the period. In the second half SDCC held PLNU to just 31 percent shooting and outscored them 15-6 in points off turnovers and 24-12 inside the paint. The Hawks trailed by as many as 20 points in the second half. They ended the game on a 36-12 run.

The Sea Lions will open their first season in Pacific West Conference play on Saturday when they host Azusa Pacific. The men's game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. following the women's game.
