The Sea Lions improved to 1-1 on the season with the win, and the Hawks, members of the Golden State Athletic Conference in the NAIA, dropped to 3-2 on the year.

Carter Phillips collected three saves and notched his first shutout of the season in a choppy game featuring a combined 33 fouls by both teams.
The two squads matched up evenly for most of the contest. The Sea Lions narrowly outshot the visiting Hawks 6-4. Both teams registered three shots on goal.
After Fuller's strike in the first half, the Sea Lions fought off several advances from the Hawks. Stellar defensive play and sound teamwork allowed the Green and Gold to grind out the win.
Thursday Sept. 13, the Sea Lions will play their inaugural match in the Pacific West Conference when they travel up to Oakland to play Holy Names University. Two days later they will head across the San Francisco Bay to face Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
