CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sean Lewis and
Breelan Matranga each won races at the Rossi Relays on Saturday (Feb. 23) to highlight the Point Loma men's and women's track & field performances.
Sean Lewis won the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.41. This marks the second straight 400m hurdles race Lewis has won. The other was the NAIA National Championship last season in Marion, Ind. He won the event on Saturday by .8 seconds.
Breelan Matranga captured the title in the women's 3k by nearly three seconds with a time of 10:37.76. She edged Jessica Meyers of Westmont and five women from the University of San Diego for the victory.
PLNU men's 4x100m relay team and 4x400m relay teams finish second to USC in both race. The Sea Lions won heat 2 of the 4x100m relay with a time of 42.06. They posted a time of 3:16.14 in the 4x400m relay as USC edged them by two seconds. The men's distance medley relay team took third place, behind USC and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, with a time of 10:29.32.
Will MacNeil took fourth place in the men's 3k with a time of 8:51.26. Jonathan Tiggs finished third in the long jump after clearing 22-2.25 (6.76m).
The Sea Lion track & field teams will take a competition hiatus for a week before returning to action at the San Diego Challenge on Saturday, Mar. 9.
