SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma women's tennis team was edged 5-4 by Claremont-Mudd -Scripps in the season opener for the Sea Lions.

PLNU split the six singles matches with CMS. The Sea Lions won at No.2 with Regina von Koch (6-4, 5-6, 12-10), No. 5 with Preethika Venugopal (6-0, 6-1) and at No. 6 with Kirsty Mountain (6-0, 6-2).

However, that was enough for the Athenas to get the match victory as they had taken two of three doubles matches from the Sea Lions. PLNU's lone win in doubles came from the No. 3 spot where Sharon Reibstein teamed with Venugopal to oust CMS's duo 9-7.

This was the fifth match of the season for CMS who is now 3-2 on the season.

Point Loma will return to action next Friday (Feb. 7) in Los Angeles as the Sea Lions face Cal State LA at 1:30 p.m.
