SURPRISE, Ariz. - The No. 25 Point Loma women's tennis team dropped its opening match at the Pacific West Conference Championships to No. 14 Academy of Art, 5-0, on Thursday, Apr. 17.
The match ended as soon as the Fourth seeded Urban Knights earned the decisive fifth point. ART U earned the first three points by taking all three doubles matches. The No. 5 seeded Sea Lions closest point came at No. 2s where
Maika Adair and
Hillary Ramage were edged by Lucia Zavarcikova and Jenny Johansson 8-6.
In singles, the Sea Lions did not have a chance to ever turn the momentum as the Urban Knights were able to pick up straight set victories at No. 3 and No. 5.
The loss evened Point Loma's record at 12-12 on the season while ART U improved to 16-2.
PLNU will now enter the consolation portion of the tournament. It will face the No. 8 seed, Dominican, on Friday, Apr. 18 at 9:00 a.m.
